View Full Tract ListOne of the casualties of the war with Iran is the breakup of OPEC. I have been wondering for the past month how the war would affect OPEC, seeing as how so many of the OPEC members have had their oil facilities and economies destroyed. The first to drop out is the United Arab Emirates, after the economies of Dubai and Abu Dhabi were devastated. All of the billionaires have left the region for safer countries. Huge luxury houses and hotels are now selling for pennies on the dollar.
With the US military bases destroyed and evacuated throughout the region, there is little doubt that they will never be rebuilt. Having the US as a military partner has proven to be a disaster, so there is little chance that those countries will renew their military arrangements in the future.
“The United Arab Emirates, one of the world’s major oil producers, will leave the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC/OPEC+) effective May 1, state news agency WAM said Tuesday morning….
“The stunning move from Abu Dhabi is likely to deeply shake the oil alliance, which derives much of its power from a strong consensus and its ability to drive global oil prices through the production power of its members.
“The move is also likely to be seen as a strategic victory for President Trump, who has repeatedly accused the OPEC+ bloc of manipulating oil prices and “ripping off” the US.”
Hmm… Was this perhaps a deliberate plan to punish the UAE?
