Ezekiel, part 13, The Prophet's Intercession

Ezekiel 4:1–8 presents the coming siege of Jerusalem through a prophetic sign. Having appointed Ezekiel as a watchman, God now requires him to embody His warning. The prophet’s actions make visible both the siege itself and the accumulated iniquity that brought it about.
Ezekiel 4:1, 2 begins,
1 Now you, son of man, get yourself a brick, place it before you and inscribe a city on it, Jerusalem. 2 Then lay siege against it, build a siege wall, raise up a ramp, pitch camps and place battering rams against it all around.
God tells Ezekiel to take a brick, place it before himself, and inscribe Jerusalem upon it. He must then construct a miniature siege around the city, including a siege wall, ramp, camps, and battering rams. For the exiles already living in Babylonia, the message was unmistakable: Jerusalem would not escape judgment simply because it contained God’s temple. Ezekiel’s deportation had occurred in 597 B.C.;

Ezekiel, part 12, Restraints and Silence

When a watchman gives warning, he/she should keep in mind the principle in Ephesians 4:15,
15 But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.
There is a right way and a wrong way to fulfill a watchman’s duty. Many turn truth into a weapon as they hurl it at assumed enemies. In doing so, they tend to curse the deaf and turn truth into a stumbling block in front of the blind. Some think that a prophet’s calling means having the ministry of criticism or a ministry of threats. In so doing, they discredit themselves, and when no one believes their word, they identify with the prophets whose word was often rejected.
I recall a word from the Lord many years ago, where He told me how to warn others or bring correction of some kind. I was not to come with an accusation but humbly with an apology, identifying myself not as a righteous judge but as a fellow imperfect man who has often failed to hear or obey the word of the Lord.

Ministry News from Nepal

I received this email from our ministry representative in Nepal today.
Dear Respected Sir and prayers supporters:
Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus!
My wife Kiran and I will be traveling to Hetauda (Makwanpur) on October 22nd to share about God's Kingdom Ministries at a two-day pastors' seminar organized by the Bagmati Rural Municipality Pastor Association. At the same time, we will be distributing our printed books, "Restoration of All Things," and tracts to the pastors.
We kindly request your prayers for:
* Our safety and protection, as the roads are very winding and curvy.
* The readiness of the hearts of the pastors and local leaders who will be attending.
* Provision for travel and other expenses.
Thank you so much for standing with us and supporting GKM Nepal to expand the mission here.
In His Service,
Sanjeev and Kiran

Ezekiel, part 11, Responsibility of a Watchman

Ezekiel’s call as a watchman is described beginning in Ezekiel 3:18, 19,
18 When I say to the wicked, “You will surely die,” and you do not warn him or speak out to warn the wicked from his wicked way that he may live, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 Yet if you have warned the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity, but you have delivered yourself.
If Ezekiel withholds the warning, God holds him responsible for that failure. If he warns faithfully and the hearer refuses, the hearer bears responsibility for that refusal. Ezekiel is accountable to deliver the word, but he cannot compel repentance. This protects him from both negligence and the attempt to control those he serves.
God’s Will and Plan
Paul expresses a related sense of responsibility in Acts 20:26–27,

Ezekiel, part 10, The Watchman's Calling

Ezekiel 3:12-15 says,
12 Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard a great rumbling sound behind me, “Blessed be the glory of the Lord in His place.” 13 And I heard the sound of wings of the living beings touching one another and the sound of the wheels beside them, even a great rumbling sound. 14 So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away; and I went embittered in the rage of my spirit, and the hand of the Lord was strong on me. 15 Then I came to the exiles who lived beside the river Chebar at Tel-abib, and I sat there seven days where they were living, causing consternation among them.
Ezekiel 3:12–15 describes the prophet’s transition from the vision of God’s throne to his place among the exiles. He is transported supernaturally by the Spirit, deeply affected by the revelation and the difficult commission he has received.

Ezekiel, part 9, The Uncompromised Word

When God told the prophet to eat the scroll (the word of God) in Ezekiel 3:1-3, its sweetness does not imply that human suffering is enjoyable. The scroll’s contents remain lamentation and woe. Rather, the experience agrees with Psalm 19:9, 10, where the Lord’s judgments are described as true, righteous, and “sweeter also than honey.”
God’s word is sweet because it is His truth, even when that truth exposes sin and announces painful consequences. Ezekiel can delight in communion with God and recognize the righteousness of His judgment while grieving over what the people will endure.
There is a related scene in Revelation 10:8–11, where John eats a little scroll. It tastes sweet but makes his stomach bitter, after which he is commissioned to prophesy again. Ezekiel 3:1–3 mentions only sweetness, though later in verse 14 he was “embittered;” John’s vision explicitly develops the contrast between receiving revelation and bearing its painful implications.

Report from Pakistan

I received this email from Pastor Fiaz recently:
Dear Dr. Stephen E. Jones,
May the Lord richly bless you and your ministry.
On October 5, 2026, we held the launching ceremony of our book, Key Words in the Holy Bible. We invited people from all across Pakistan to attend the ceremony, representing different churches and various fields of life.
I gave copies of the book to Dr. Naeem Saleem, Dr. Shahid Siddiq Gill, and Dr. Faniel Rasheed and asked them to read it and share their thoughts about it. All of them spoke very highly of the book and appreciated its content and message.
We have printed 3,000 copies of this book. During the launching ceremony, the people who received your books were deeply impressed by their topics and by the biblical truths presented in them.
I thank the Lord for bringing you into our lives. Your books are playing an important role in helping bring sound and accurate biblical teaching to churches across Pakistan. Many people contact me and speak very highly of your books,

Ezekiel, part 8, Feeding God's Children

Ezekiel 2:6 says,
6 And you, son of man, neither fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions; neither fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence, for they are a rebellious house.
These divine metaphors refer back to the story of Adam’s sin in Eden, where “thorns and thistles” (Genesis 3:18) were part of the curse of the law for sin. Adam became the archetype of the “old man” (KJV) or the “old self” (NASB) that follows the law of sin (Romans 7:23). Adam was the first “son of God” (Luke 3:38), and when he rebelled, God judged him with the death penalty (Genesis 2:17). So Paul says in Romans 6:23, “the wages of sin is death.”
This was later codified in the law of Moses in Deuteronomy 21:18-21, applicable to the “old man” that all mankind became when born through the flesh. In the broadest sense, we are all children of God, as Paul tells the pagan Greeks in Acts 17:27-29,
27 … He is not far from each of us,

Ezekiel, part 7, The Commission

Ezekiel 2 moves from the revelation of God’s glory to the commissioning of His prophet. Ezekiel 2:1, 2 says,
1 Then He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet that I may speak with you!” 2 As He spoke to me, the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me.
Ezekiel has fallen on his face before the throne (1:28). God now commands him to stand, and the Spirit supplies the ability to obey.
“Son of man” first identifies Ezekiel as a human being. The Hebrew expression is ben-ʾadam, literally “son of man” or “son of Adam.” In this setting, it emphasizes the contrast between the mortal prophet and the glorious One addressing him. Ezekiel belongs to Adam’s race, and as a descendant of Adam, he inherits at least a portion of Adam’s original call to rule and be fruitful. After Adam sinned, a descendant (inheritor) of Adam was required to undo the resulting chaos and to restore creation.
The address is therefore a messianic title whenever it occurs,

Ezekiel, part 6, The Expanse

Ezekiel 1:22 says,
22 Now over the heads of the living beings was something like an expanse, like the awesome gleam of crystal, spread out over their heads.
The Hebrew word translated “expanse” is raqiaʿ, the same word used in Genesis 1:6–8, where God establishes the expanse between the waters above and below. The KJV renders this as the “firmament” separating the waters above from the waters below. It conveys something spread out or extended. In Ezekiel’s vision, it appears as a magnificent overhead surface beneath the throne.
The waters above are the source of rain, especially the former and latter rains (Joel 2:23), which, again, also represent outpourings of the Spirit resulting in fruitfulness in the earth.
This arrangement establishes an order: the throne is above the expanse, and the living creatures and wheels are below it. The creatures exercise their functions under the authority of the One enthroned above them.

Ezekiel, part 5, Being Led by the Spirit

The beryl-like appearance of the wheels in Ezekiel 1:16 portrays the preciousness and radiant glory of God’s government. Its association with the high priest’s breastplate also suggests that His rule is joined to priestly representation of His people.
Beryl and Asher
Asher is commonly identified with the beryl (tarshish), because beryl is the tenth stone listed in Exodus 28:17–20, and Asher is Jacob’s tenth son in birth order (Genesis 30:12–13).
However, Exodus does not explicitly assign Asher to beryl. Exodus 28:21 says that the twelve stones bore the names of the twelve tribes but does not specify their arrangement.
The instruction to engrave names “according to their birth” appears in Exodus 28:10, concerning the two onyx shoulder stones. Applying that same order to the breastplate gives beryl = Asher, but that remains an inference. Yet if we assume that the beryl in Exodus 28:20 represents Asher, we might conclude that this has to do with happiness, or being blessed.

Ezekiel, part 4, The Thrones

Ezekiel 1:13–21 presents God’s throne as living, active, and perfectly governed by His Spirit. The fire displays His holiness, while the wheels show that His authority can move wherever He wills. For Ezekiel, seeing this in Babylon meant that God’s presence and government were not confined to Jerusalem.
Ezekiel 1:13 says,
13 In the midst of the living beings there was something that looked like burning coals of fire, like torches darting back and forth among the living beings. The fire was bright, and lightning was flashing from the fire.
Ezekiel describes burning coals, torches, and lightning moving among the creatures. This recalls the fire associated with God’s presence at Sinai and the pillar of fire that guided Israel through the wilderness. Moses’ description of God’s manifestation at Sinai is found in Deuteronomy 4:12, 24 in this way:
12 Then the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words,

Ezekiel, part 3, Divine Government

Israel encampment in the wilderness mirrored Ezekiel’s vision of the four living creatures. It is noteworthy that this took place in Chaldea among the exiles, which was a renewed wilderness experience for the captives of Judah. The purpose of the wilderness, from God’s point of view, represents a period of training to prepare for life in a future Kingdom. So just as the Israelites were being prepared in the wilderness under Moses, so also was God preparing the people of Judah for a future Kingdom.
Likewise, just as the Israelites were given the hope of a Promised Land in the future, so also were these Judahite exiles given the hope of the true Promised Land in the future. God normally gives us a glimpse of future glory at the outset. This was the underlying purpose of Ezekiel’s vision of glory as well. Ultimately, it was a vision of the glory of His Kingdom. Although their wilderness experience would take thousands of years under the rule of four beast empires,

Ezekiel, part 2, The Vision

Ezekiel 1:1-3 begins,
1 Now it came about in the thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, while I was by the river Chebar among the exiles, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God. 2 (On the fifth of the month in the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s exile, 3 the word of the Lord came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and there the hand of the Lord came upon him.)
The “thirtieth year” was the year of the 17th Jubilee cycle, dating back to the Jordan crossing. The 16th Jubilee Year was from 623-622 B.C. It was also the first year of the 17th Jubilee cycle, because the 50th year was also the first year of the next cycle.
The 30th year of the 17th Jubilee cycle was five years after Jehoiachin had been exiled, along with 7,000 other Judahites. Since Jehoiachin was exiled in 597 B.C., the fifth year of his exile is dated 593-592 B.C. More specifically,

Ezekiel, part 1, Introduction

Ezekiel is a book of judgment, restoration, and the glory of God. It explains why Jerusalem was being judged, why exile did not mean that God had abandoned His ultimate goals and purposes, and how God would restore His people by giving them a new heart and His Spirit.
Who Was Ezekiel?
Ezekiel was a priest, the son of Buzi, whom God called to be a prophet while he was living among the exiles in Chaldea, or southern Babylon (Ezekiel 1:1–3). His name means “God strengthens,” a fitting name for a man commissioned to speak to a stubborn and rebellious people. Names usually reflect a prophet’s calling, so in this case, Ezekiel’s name prophesied of the strengthening (reconstitution) of the lost kingdom. It also suggested the reunification of Israel and Judah, which is necessary to fully establish the Kingdom of God.
Ezekiel began to prophesy beside the river, or canal, Chebar. Some older Bible dictionaries identified Chebar with Habor,

Foundations of the Kingdom of God, final

Having exposed the political nature of the Little Horn’s religious beast empire, we can more easily understand how it differs from the final prophesied Kingdom that arises afterward, ruled by the saints of the Most High. God gave many beast empires time to prove themselves to be unworthy of the Dominion Mandate. Each empire was based on a different political tradition of men that failed in the end.
All of these beast empires were religious, though carnal. The first four were non-Christian, that is, pagan empires; the extension of Rome was based on Christian tradition, though not upon Christ Himself. Hence, the whole world was represented. Many nations were given the opportunity to exercise dominion in order to see if they could do better than Judah. But they all misused the Dominion Mandate, even as Judah had done earlier.
Each beast empire was judged in the end. The most striking example of this judgment was seen when Babylon fell. That same night, the handwriting on the wall (Daniel 5:25-

Foundations of the Kingdom of God, part 2

When the Israelites wanted flesh to eat, God gave them their desire but it made them sick. Psalm 106:15 says,
13 They quickly forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel, 14 but craved intensely in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. 15 So He gave them their request, but sent a wasting disease [razon, “leanness, scantiness, wasting”] among them.
God brought judgment upon them by granting their prayer requests. They should have sought to know the mind of God and then prayed for His perfect will. Yet this is often how men forget His works. They are primarily concerned with their own desires, not realizing that eating “flesh” does not really bring the results that they anticipate. Lord, teach us how to pray!
The carnal condition of the church in the wilderness is the “normal” pattern seen in the church to this day. Many have prayed for the peace of the earthly Jerusalem, rather than the heavenly city, because they are children of the bondwoman and desire flesh to eat.

Estonia's clown show

Estonia, one of Europe’s tiny Baltic nations, is being applauded for banning all grain shipments from Russia through its ports.
https://www.reuters.com/world/estonia-bans-transit-russian-belarusian-grain-through-its-territory-2026-10-01/
I asked AI how much grain has been shipped through Estonian ports since the start of the Ukraine war. The answer was this:

“The best-supported answer is essentially none—effectively zero Russian grain transit through Estonia since Russia’s full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022.
“Estonia’s Foreign Ministry and Tax and Customs Board describe Russian grain transit through Estonia as “virtually” or “essentially nonexistent.” Port of Tallinn’s commercial director stated in December 2023 that the port had not handled Russian grain for approximately ten years, predating the invasion by many years.”

Nonetheless, the uninformed are cheering Estonia’s government for standing up against Russia.
What a clown show!

Foundations of the Kingdom of God, part 1

The Kingdom of God has undergone many stages of development over the millennia. It started with a limited plot of ground called the Garden of Eden. This was the seat of earthly government (Genesis 1:26), but the earth as a whole was still chaotic, and Adam was instructed to “subdue it” (Genesis 1:28). This was not a military mandate. He had to bring order out of chaos by the authority of the word of God.
Sin, however, expelled Adam and Eve from the Garden and from his highest governmental position. He became part of the problem, and his descendants soon proved this. Genesis 6:11 says,
11 Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence.
God then cleansed the earth with a flood, but this did not restore Kingdom government. The hearts of the people remained unchanged. Violence continued. Noah, and then Shem, remained as the rightful birthright holders of Kingdom government,
