We have taken the five ministry gifts (Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers, Prophets, and Apostles) as an outline for the courses of Bible study in this School.
Our purpose is to equip those who are ministering with a knowledge of the Word, so that each will be more effective in fulfilling his or her calling.
Learn MoreHaving set forth the teachings of the milk of the word from Hebrews 6:1, 2, as well as the meat of the word from the book of Hebrews as a whole, I find it beneficial and even necessary to build upon those foundations. This I call the filet mignon of the word, named for a more exotic cut of meat.
The meat of the word is implied in the book of Hebrews, consisting mainly of the way in which Old Testament types and shadows are replaced by “better” things. A type is a lesser form of truth, containing a more limited revelation of an antitype.
A shadow projects a profile when light shines upon an object upon a backdrop. Such profiles make the object easier to recognize when it is finally seen for what it is, but it is merely a two-dimensional picture of a three-dimensional object. For this reason, while the profile is helpful, it is only a dim picture of reality. Even so, by studying the shadow carefully, one is able to recognize the real object when one sees it.
Once the reality is linked to its shadow, we can understand the progression of revelation that God has employed over time. Even this reality itself is normally a small or local object, but once we comprehend its revelation, we are then able to recreate it on a greater scale and make it more useful to humanity as a whole. Hence, even antitypes themselves are not necessarily the final form of revelation that we ought to know and understand. They are useful tools by which we may extend their reach universally in a creative fashion.
In other words, by studying the milk and meat of the word, we mature in our knowledge of Christ and thus become capable not only of better things but also of greater things. It is my intention in this study of the filet mignon of the word to increase the magnitude of the light of revelation, not only to link profiles with reality but also to make truth universal. It is my belief that such a study is foundational to reigning with Christ in the ages to come.
Dr. Stephen Jones has been writing blog posts since 2005 on a variety of topics from Bible Studies to World News, and he has been writing books since 1992. Dr. Jones' most important writings came after God brought him back into the full-time ministry in 1991. It is here that all his earlier years of searching the Scriptures began to come into clear focus. He combines a knowledge of the Old and New Testaments with a personal revelation of God that began and developed during the "wilderness" period of his life, which he often refers to as God's True Bible College...
