In 2014, while studying the time cycles of Daniel’s “little horn,” I noticed that it was 1,260 years since the year 754 A.D. This was the midpoint of a 2,520-year period of “seven times” (7 x 360 years) given to the four beast nations in Daniel 7.
The Babylonian beast was pictured as a winged lion, Persia was a bear, Greece was a leopard, and Rome was a nameless beast with iron teeth and hoofs. See Daniel 7.
Jerusalem surrendered to Babylon in 604 B.C., officially starting the seven times of tribulation. The 1260-year midpoint was 757 A.D. when we account for the century of Jerusalem’s independence from 164-64 B.C. That was the century in which the third beast was denied authority over Jerusalem, and so this lost century had to be added at the end in order to give the full allotment of dominion to these beasts.
In 754 Pepin conquered Lombardy (in Italy) and completed his conquests in 756, donating those lands to Pope Stephen III as “Papal States.” By 757 the pope had secured control of his new territory, marking the point in time when, as Peter Stearns said, the popes became “the heirs of the empire in Italy.”
This in itself is a lengthy and somewhat complex study of history and prophecy, which I covered in greater detail in chapters 22 and 23 of my third book on Daniel, Prophet of the Ages. Some of you may want to review these chapters.
The bottom line is that from 2014-2017 we reached the end of the 2,520-year time of tribulation prophesied in Scripture. At the time, I wondered if we might see Jerusalem destroyed in 2017, but this did not happen, because there was another date looming before our eyes that was even more significant. That was the year 2024.
2017 was just the start of a 7-year demolition of the Babylonian beast system, and so God raised up the Demolition man himself, Donald Trump, to begin this process. After him, Joe Biden took up the mantle in a different way. We have now come to 2024.
The year 2024 is 70 Jubilees (70 x 49 or 7 x 490 years) since Joshua invaded Canaan. Today we stand at the other end of this cycle. The kings of Canaan back then are now the nations of the world, and the overcomers are playing the role of the conquerors. The crucial difference is that Joshua fought the Canaanites under the dominion of the Old Covenant, using a physical sword, whereas we are under the dominion of the New Covenant, having a spiritual sword, which is the word of God.
The New Covenant, promised to Abraham, is fulfilled when we are able to be a blessing to all nations (Genesis 12:3). Hence, our mission is positive, not negative. We are not called to commit genocide but to set the people free into the glorious freedom of the children of God. Yet in order to set people free requires the abolition of the beast system that currently enslaves the world.
The little horn is the final extension of the Roman Empire. Rome fell in 476 A.D., and shortly afterward came the rise of the “little horn” of Daniel 7:20-26. This started with the Emperor Justinian the Great in 526 A.D., when he began to “make alterations in time and in law” (Daniel 7:25).
Justinian’s first project was to change the Roman calendar, which had begun counting years since the founding of Rome in 753 B.C. Justinian altered this to begin counting with the birth of Jesus, giving us the current system of “Before Christ” (B.C.) and “the year of our Lord” (A.D.).
The emperor’s next project was to revamp Roman law to reflect Orthodox Christian laws and customs. This was begun in 529, revised in 530, and implemented in 534 A.D. These laws established what is called the Feudal System of land-owning lords and working peasants. For the most part, it was a system of near slavery.
This lack of freedom made it clear that this was not a biblical system. Yet it was promoted by the Roman church for centuries, and when men began to break free of it, the church bitterly opposed the new emerging republics, including the American republic in the late 1700’s.
For many years, my question was this: How long would this last? When would we see the fall of the little horn known as the Vatican—or, more specifically, the papal system?
It appears that the answer is that the papal system ought to end by the end of 2024.
The archbishop of Armagh in Ireland was summoned to Rome in 1139. On his return trip, he received his revelation of the next 112 popes. Each was given a short description, all of which came to pass, beginning with Pope Celestine II, who was elected pope in 1144.
After completing 111 popes, Malachy stated:
In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [i.e. Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The End.[
Pope Francis is the 112th pope since Celestine II in 1144. It appears that we are now seeing the final pope before “The End.” If so, I would expect to see Pope Francis die or be overthrown in 2024, and it does not appear that he will be replaced.
Is it just coincidental that the 112th pope would be living today at the same time that the beast system is ending? The little horn is religious Rome, whose time expired in 2014-2017 and which (I believe) is crumbling. We now look forward to a new Kingdom Era, and we are active participants in its establishment.
