We have taken the five ministry gifts (Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers, Prophets, and Apostles) as an outline for the courses of Bible study in this School.
Our purpose is to equip those who are ministering with a knowledge of the Word, so that each will be more effective in fulfilling his or her calling.
Learn MoreIn Part 3 I rushed off without adequately explaining Philippians 3:11,
11 in order that I may attain to the resurrection [ex-anastasia] from the dead.
What is the difference between anastasia and ex-anastasia? Dr. Bullinger tells us in his notes on this verse in The Companion Bible. He writes,
“Resurrection = out-resurrection… Resurrection from the dead [ek-nekron] implies the resurrection of some, the former of these two classes, the others being left behind.”
This describes perfectly the limited resurrection in Revelation 20:5,
5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection.
In other words, those who are raised in the first resurrection will leave behind others who are not raised from the dead at that time. It is a resurrection out from among the rest of the dead. This is the “high calling of God” that Paul desired. Though Paul was a Spirit-filled believer, he was still uncertain that he would attain the first resurrection. No doubt he knew that he would have to endure to the end.
Later, of course, when it became clear that he would soon be executed, he wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7, 8,
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith, 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness…
The “crown” implies authority that God has granted to the overcomers to rule the nations in the coming Tabernacles Age.
When we understand the two resurrections, we should be motivated to achieve the first rather than the second. See my book, How to Be an Overcomer.
Dr. Stephen Jones has been writing blog posts since 2005 on a variety of topics from Bible Studies to World News, and he has been writing books since 1992. It is here that all his earlier years of searching the Scriptures began to come into clear focus. He combines a knowledge of the Old and New Testaments with a personal revelation of God that began and developed during the "wilderness" period of his life, which he often refers to as God's True Bible College...
