The Palestinians in Gaza are receiving support from Yemen, which has shut down shipping through the Red Sea. Oil tankers from the Persian Gulf are no longer able to use the Suez Canal to bring oil to Europe. Many of these ships are oil tankers from Iraq and Iran, so it seems strange to claim that Yemen is “backed by Iran.”
The cost of insurance has increased to the point where it is now more cost effective to send the tankers an extra 3,000 miles around South Africa. No doubt this will raise the price of oil shortly.
The blame game continues, of course, each claiming that the other side started the war. Most people know very little history, and so they think that the war in Gaza began on October 7 (as the Israelis claim). To the Palestinians, the war began in 1948. To me, it began even earlier with the rise of Jewish terrorists, Vladimir Jabotinsky, Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir.
In the 1960’s, Yassir Arafat observed the success of Jewish terrorism and adopted their playbook, founding the PLO. Later, when the PLO joined mainstream politics, the Israeli government needed a new terrorist organization to blame. Hence, they helped start Hamas, which was then used to divide Palestine in two, thus weakening the PLO itself.
Meanwhile, Israeli settlers grabbed various hills in the Palestinian territory, claiming to “redeem the land.” This was technically illegal even by official Israeli standards, but little was done about it. Eventually, they were declared to be legal.
A two-state solution called for by UN Resolution 181 on November 29, 1947, was never allowed to be fully implemented. When Israeli PM Rabin tried to implement it and bring peace, he was assassinated by his own people in 1995.
In 1992, Rabin was re-elected as prime minister on a platform embracing the Israeli–Palestinian peace process. He signed several historic agreements with the Palestinian leadership as part of the Oslo Accords. In 1994, Rabin won the Nobel Peace Prize together with long-time political rival Shimon Peres and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Rabin also signed a peace treaty with Jordan in 1994. In November 1995, he was assassinated by an extremist named Yigal Amir, who opposed the terms of the Oslo Accords. Amir was convicted of Rabin's murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The current situation in Gaza makes it clear that Netanyahu is going for another land grab by making Gaza uninhabitable until it can be populated by Israeli settlers. The Palestine Authority nearby must surely realize that they are next. Netanyahu has stated often that there will be no two-state solution. The Israeli government wants it all. Hence, UN Resolution 181 was declared dead by the Israeli coroner, PM Netanyahu.
It is strange how the Israeli government’s own legitimacy is based on UN Resolution 181, and yet they have repeatedly violated that Resolution over the past 75 years. Israel’s “right to exist” apparently does not include the same right for Palestinians, even though both are guaranteed by the same Resolution.
Isaiah 29 makes it clear that in the end neither side will get the land. It also makes clear that God Himself is the Commander of the armies that will destroy Jerusalem itself. The prophet’s terminology suggests a (local) nuclear war that will destroy Jerusalem and render the whole land uninhabitable. It is quite possible that the present war in Gaza is the early stage of this final war. It is for this reason we ought to pay attention to the news.
As for the timing of all this, I have been writing about the importance of the year 2024 for many years. It is 490 x 7 years since Joshua crossed the Jordan and the wars with the Canaanites began. This can be viewed also as 70 x 49 years, or 70 Jubilees. This is a very long and important cycle, and it is reaching a climax at the end of the age.
We always can expect a lot of chaos as we transition from one age to another. But if we know the sure word of prophecy, we will also not be taken by surprise. Knowing how the story ends is also very helpful in ordering our lives and knowing our callings.
