The corruption in the house of Eli brought Israeli into captivity to the Philistines for 40 years. This was virtually the entire time that Eli was high priest at Shiloh, because he was the high priest for 40 years and died just before the end of the captivity. Hence, the captivity really was caused by the corruption of Eli’s father.
After Samson brought down a temple of Dagon, killing 3,000 pagan worshipers (Judges 16:23, 27), the Philistines took revenge upon the Israelites. In the war that followed, Eli’s sons brought the ark of the covenant into battle, hoping to defeat the enemy. But since Israel was still in rebellion against God, Israel was legally defined as God’s enemy. (See Leviticus 26:40, 41, 42 and Isaiah 63:10.)
So God fought with the Philistines, and Israel lost the battle. The ark of God was captured, and the Philistines brought it to the house of Dagon in Ashdod. This had to be a different temple than the one that Samson destroyed earlier, but nonetheless, the Philistines apparently offered the ark as a trophy or offering to appease Dagon for the loss of one of his temples.
In 1 Samuel 5:1-4 we read,
1 Now the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2 Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. 3 When the Ashdodites arose early in the morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and set him in his place again. 4 But when they arose early the next morning, behold, Dagon had fallen on his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord. And the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off on the threshold; only the trunk of Dagon was left to him.
Meanwhile, the Israelites lamented their loss, saying, “the glory has departed from Israel” (1 Samuel 4:21, 22). Most of them did not realize that the lawlessness and corruption in the religious leadership itself had already given the glory of God to false gods. Hence, when God gave the ark to the Philistines for a season, He was only exposing what had already been done during the administration of Eli.
But later, in the context of the messianic prophecies in Isaiah 40-66, we read in Isaiah 42:8,
8 I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to graven images.
So we find that Samuel was the righteous priest that God raised up to turn the hearts of the Israelites and end their captivity to the Philistines. While the Israelites were repenting, God was busy in Ashdod casting down the statue of Dagon, the great fish god. Dag means “fish,” but it appears that originally Dagon was a fertility god associated with “grain” (digan). Dagon was a man with a fish tail (or a merman). He was known to the Greeks by the name Poseidon, the god of the Sea (also See, as in the “Holy See”).
The Fall of Dagon
God caused Dagon to fall on “the threshold” in 1 Samuel 5:4. The Hebrew word is miphtan, which also means “podium.” The word is from the same root as pethen, “twist, viper, snake.” This suggests that Dagon was judged by God at the place of the offense—the podium, where the truth was twisted by the lying spirit of the serpent.
Dagon’s female counterpart was known as Atargatis, a mermaid goddess whose temple was in Askelon (or Ashkelon), a Philistine city south of Ashdod. Dagon and Atargatis were said to be married, but of course, they also competed for power. They are good illustrations of what it means to have a bad marriage based on self-interest.
Philistine fishermen had to pay taxes to the fish gods in the temple. The temple of Atargatis had a pond of sacred fish. If anyone were to steal one of those fish, or if they did not pay taxes on the fish they caught in the ocean, they were cursed with hemorrhoids, believe it or not. That is why the Philistines were afflicted with “tumors” (1 Samuel 5:6, 12) when they took the ark of God. We also read in 1 Samuel 6:11,
11 And they put the ark of the Lord on the cart, and the box with the golden mice and the likenesses of their tumors.
1 Samuel 6:17, 18 says that they sent five of these “golden tumors,” one for each of the five cities of the Philistines. Essentially, this represented restitution on behalf of the entire Philistine population.
People have wondered why God afflicted them with hemorrhoids and why the Philistines sent images of mice back with the ark. “Mice” was a euphemism for hemorrhoids, if you get my meaning. By afflicting the Philistines in this way, God was speaking in their own language, letting them know that they had stolen a sacred object from the God of Israel. It did not take them long to make the connection, since they already believed that this was the judgment of Dagon and Atargatis for stealing sacred fish from the temple.
Dagon overthrown in Minneapolis
There is a statue of Dagon at the Minneapolis courthouse. Dagon is the ruling god of Minneapolis and perhaps the state of Minnesota itself. Last night we overthrew this false god.
Three of us (Sean, Brad, and I) gathered last evening to deliver a woman from the spirit of Dagon. This incident gave us direct contact with Dagon himself. Dagon was stubborn and persistent, causing a lot of abdominal pain to the one possessed, and at one point it attacked Sean, grabbing him by the throat.
Dagon did not like Sean at all, probably because he had discovered the statue in the courthouse and had exposed Dagon’s rule over Minneapolis. Dagon blamed him and used the woman in question to say many times, “I don’t like you.” Sean, of course, knew that this was just demonic talk. Once we called him out by name, he was cast out, and the woman was at peace.
The entire process took only about 20 minutes. We sent him to the feet of Jesus for divine judgment. Within two minutes, I received a text message from 2000 miles away, saying, “I keep seeing a trident with the fires on the west coast, the rains on the east coast, and the Mississippi in the middle. I know it is called a ‘quora’ in Poseidon’s hand… It’s like Satan’s claim on this land.”
That was an immediate confirmation of what we had just accomplished. Poseidon is the Greek equivalent of Dagon.
The Glory is Returning
I prayed overnight and pondered the meaning of this. The main result was that Minneapolis as a whole was set free from this false god, which was set up by the Pillsbury family and Freemasons more than a century ago. Masonic religion is prevalent all through this nation.
The biblical precedent links Dagon to the departure of the glory of God due to church corruption. When the church leadership is corrupt, the glory departs and is held prisoner in the house of Dagon. But because God will not give His glory to another (someone other than Jesus Christ and His body), the glory will certainly return.
The floods in the east, the fires in the west, and the wind in the Windy City (Chicago) are like three manifestations of the Holy Spirit: water, fire, and wind. Yet these symbols have also been used by the dark side for destructive purposes and for false gods to maintain their power to suppress the glory of God in the house of Dagon.
We now know that Minneapolis has been the house of Dagon. But earlier this week Sean was given discernment about the situation as he prayed along the Mississippi River. Dagon was exposed, and this then culminated with the deliverance session last night, where Dagon was brought to us through this woman to face-to-face divine judgment.
When we have such face-to-face encounters, the entire situation becomes much more real than if we just prayed into the wind and atmosphere. Either way will work, of course, but a physical manifestation brings instant confirmation and the drama itself makes it highly memorable.
This incident, I believe, is a sign that the glory is returning. Eli is being replaced by Samuel—that is, the corrupt leadership of the church is being replaced by the sons of God. The fires in the west, the floods in the east, and the wind in the center are now signs of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that is soon coming. Poseidon’s trident has been claimed by our God.
