It is now official. The USA is now Sodom from a biblical world view. We are now in the condition presented in the first chapter of Isaiah, when the prophet saw Israel in the same light.
Isaiah 1 says,
2 Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth; for the Lord speaks, “Sons I have reared and brought up, but they have revolted against Me. 3 An ox knows its owner, and a donkey its master’s manger, but Israel does not know, My people do not understand. 4 Alas, sinful nation, people weighed down with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, sons who act corruptly! They have abandoned the Lord, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they have turned away from Him… 5 The whole head is sick, and the whole heart is faint. 6 From the sole of the foot even to the head there is nothing sound in it, only bruises, welts, and raw wounds, not pressed out or bandaged, nor softened with oil… 9 Unless the Lord of hosts had left us a few survivors, we would be like Sodom and we would be like Gomorrah. 10 Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom; give ear to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah.”
Here God prophetically calls Israel “Sodom” and “Gomorrah.” I suppose we had to reach this point in order to fulfill this prophecy. We now eat the fruit of lawlessness that the Church has cultivated for the past century. Though most denominations condemned homosexual behavior, they undermined their own position by putting away the law of God. If God’s law was put away, then how can any preacher set forth a standard of right and wrong unless he bases it on the traditions of men? The only reason that sin is sin is because the law says so (Romans 7:7).
Paul says also in Romans 4:15, “where there is no law, neither is there violation.” In other words, if God had put away His law, then there is no such thing as sin. Sin is the transgression of law (1 John 3:4).
Where do we go from here? Each step is a stepping stone to a new level. Will the gay rights movement be satisfied with this Supreme Court ruling? Of course not. The next step will be to make it illegal for ministers to refuse to perform gay marriages. Then it will become illegal to criticize gay marriage in public. Then such criticism will become a hate crime. Finally, criticism will be called an act of terrorism, so that the government will be able to send people to Guantanamo without charges and with no trial in sight.
First, they push for tolerance, then equality, then dominance, then intolerance.
At the same time, the public schools will now be forced to “normalize” homosexuality in every way, making it acceptable in the minds of children. They know that in a generation or two everyone will wonder how anyone could have thought that homosexuality was abnormal or wrong in the past. Ultimately, it will become the preferred life style, the envy of all heterosexuals, as they wish they were more like their gay sports heroes. That is the intention, and it is the direction we are headed.
At some point, of course, there will be divine intervention and/or judgment. I believe God is about to pour out His Holy Spirit upon the world, and that this will change everything. Without this intervention, the world would be a scary place.
In Isaiah’s day, the house of Israel was brought to ruin and its people exiled to the area around the Caspian Sea. Fortunately for us, we are at the other end of history. Even though we are seeing a repeat of the lawless conditions, the outcome will be different. Ancient Israel had an Old Covenant solution, which is for the people to fulfill their vow at Mount Sinai in Exodus 19:8. We, however, have a New Covenant solution, where God is obligated to fulfill His vow to turn our hearts and to make us His people (Deuteronomy 29:10-15). This is the key to knowing the outcome of the present situation. This is our hope.
The church as a whole needs to understand its culpability in all of this. It needs to know where it went off course and what the root of the problem is. At this point most Christians have no clear knowledge of their rebellion against God. They think that because they preach against sin, they are innocent. They do not realize that in teaching that the law was put away, they have undermined their own preaching and are unknowingly as “hypocritical” as Israel and Judah in ancient times.
Perhaps now the Supreme Court’s actions will be a revelation to the Church and will cause them to search their own hearts, rather than blame the unbelievers. The so-called Church Age has been the Kingdom of Saul, from a prophetic standpoint. Saul was in rebellion against God, though it is doubtful that even he understood this. The Spirit of God came upon him, he prophesied, and cast spears at David. Crowned on the day of wheat harvest (1 Samuel 12:17), later known as Pentecost, he was one of the main types of the Church under Pentecost, which foreshadowed the Church in the next age.
Until Christians understand this prophecy of the kingdom of Saul, they may not be equipped to comprehend the problem that seems to be inherent in Pentecost. The basic problem is rebellion against God, even while the Spirit of God is present to bring miracles and prophecy. “Is Saul also among the prophets?” (1 Samuel 10:12). How can a rebellious, lawless king prophesy by the power of the Holy Spirit? That became a proverb in Israel to express unexplainable contradictions.
So it is also with the Church in the past 2,000 years and especially in the past century since the re-introduction of the Pentecostal movement. Pentecost was supposed to write the law of God on our hearts, so that, like Paul, we could serve the law of God (Romans 7:25). Instead, it seems that Pentecost rejected the law of God and opted to serve the traditions of men—that is, the laws that they agreed with. Many followed the Jewish precedent and became legalistic, rather than lawful.
We are now eating the bitter fruit of what we have sown in times past. Hopefully, when the Church realizes that its trees are not bringing forth good fruit, they will search for answers and pray for revelation. The revelation is found everywhere in Scripture where the prophets give the reasons for Israel’s captivities.
